This effect is on adobe photoshop cs6 cover. How do I reproduce the effect of the circles on the face?

Which effect are you referring to? – John Dec 22 '12 at 22:19

What have you tried? That image is actually a photo, not some "effect". I know you think very little of everyone here. You've commented directly regarding that. I can't help but wonder why you keep returning to CONTINUALLY ask vague questions which clearly show zero research on your part. – Scott Dec 23 '12 at 0:01

There's a video at adobe's website that is highlighting the artist who did this piece. It shows some of the process (at the photoshoot) in that video. – OghmaOsiris Dec 23 '12 at 2:43
I am talking about Dots confirming to her face's shape. – Muhammad Umer Dec 23 '12 at 6:48

@MuhammadUmer Those are simply pieces of paper glued to the models face during a photo shoot. They were not done in Photoshop. – OghmaOsiris Dec 23 '12 at 8:25

I assume you're referring to the dots overlaid on the model. It appears to have been part of the photo styling, not post-production.

You could achieve something similar in a 3D modeling environment using a texture map. I can't speak to PS CS6's capabilities in that area.

On the other hand, the eyes seem to have been done almost entirely in post-production.

yes the dots on the face....looks pretty cool. I dont think i would be able to distort them in this way. – Muhammad Umer Dec 23 '12 at 6:47

It uses the displace filter , which comes under distortion

To reproduce the effect you can try doing this :

  1. First you have to create a displacement map.You can do that by saving the black and white image of the lady's face.Play with the curves and levels to make the details clear

  2. Make the circle texture by using the brush in wet mode and applying texture to the brush and bit mode editing and shadow effects on the texture.

  3. Make a second layer on top of the lady's head and apply the texture and apply the displace filter using the map created.

  4. Change the blending mode of the layer to get the suitable result.

Note : Using a 3d software to make the texture would give you better results

last night i did exactly that...wow.. And only trouble i had was that (#4) only way it looked good was with overlay but then skin texture was showing up...i think i should have worked more on displacement map. Like smooth out the skin and remove ll facial hair. I need a photo like that to work on. Couldnt find anything on google like that. – Muhammad Umer Dec 23 '12 at 18:16
things i noticed.. 1. Dots are somewhat transparent. 2. Left side is almost over exposed, and shadows are mostly at right. 3. Secret lies in Displacement map and color on the face. 4. Dots were layed out from out to inward clockwise, therefore, middle ones are top. – Muhammad Umer Dec 23 '12 at 20:54
You can get best results by playing with the displacement map.like applying healing tool or surface blur to the face and smoothing it out and using dodge and burn tool to shade some areas manually. – Mevin Babu Dec 24 '12 at 10:36
