When I try to use the ruler tool, the guide line does not show up until I release my mouse pointer, so I have to drag basically blind.

This problem might have been caused by a settings change that I did without thinking, or someone might have used my computer and changed the setting. But I can't change it back.

Tech support issue... but my guess is an Open GL issue.. rebooted the Mac recently? – SOIA Jul 17 '13 at 17:56
