I am planning to use CSS sprites for a social-network web site. In order to produce an unique but mostly a "pre-organized" image that contains all small images used in that website, I would like to know a list of the most widely used images in social-network web site.

That is, for example:

  • default profile images

Even if we could answer this, it'd be pointless, as all that matters are the images you need for your particular site. – DA01 Jun 28 '11 at 19:42
Whatever images you are going to need are going to be determined by the design of your site. There is no way for you (or us) to know what images you are going to need until you have a design. Trying to build any site, let alone your "social-network web site", without a design to reference is like going kayaking without the kayak. – joshmax Jun 29 '11 at 13:42
