I've been tasked with creating a (digital) Christmas invitation card to my companies business partners, but I've literally no idea where to start. I've searched and searched but haven't really found anything of value. So..

Does anyone know where I could find any good resources (read inspiration) on this?

EDIT: What I want is inspiration for a Christmas-themed invitation card (Which means anything web, with a Christmas-theme, will do).

One of the problems with this question is that it can be read "I don't really know what I want, can you find it for me?" It is difficult to believe you searched for Xmas imagery and didn't find anything at all of any use. – e100 Oct 12 '11 at 13:55

Resources for what? Art, ideas, templates? Guidelines for what? Print, web, Flash, cultural differences with the holidays? If you are this lost with this project—and you are in good company as @e100 points out, and I can certainly understand the pressure having been in the same situation—then all anyone can recommend is to outsource the job. The in-house company Christmas card/e-card is a classic difficult brief.

While this doesn't answer your question directly, one option is to sidestep the issue entirely by buying a package online that can be customised with your company's details, client names etc.

These often benefit charities, which can be good PR for the company. It may well be cheaper than your time.

Was hoping to avoid that, would probably be forced to pay from my own wallet, since management would totally refuse (to pay for something like that). Oh, and it's not going to be sent in-house. It's going to be sent to the company´s different clients, partners and other external people/stuff. – Marcus Hansson Oct 12 '11 at 14:04

If this is going to be outward-facing, then the project should come out of the company's Marketing budget, especially since you don't entirely know who you are going to be sending a Christmas card to. – Philip Regan Oct 12 '11 at 14:11
Yeah, well, we don't have a "Marketing budget" (we're a small, <60 people company) so anything like this (read anything remotely not on someones desk involving something even remotely close to IT and/or design) ends up on IT's desk. – Marcus Hansson Oct 12 '11 at 14:31

That's rough, but not atypical sadly. It represents a fundamental misunderstanding of a lot of things on management's part. I recommend reading this Q&A over at Programmers: programmers.stackexchange.com/q/22244/6419. There are some ideas, none of the good (though that appears to be intentional), and the second-highest answer recommends outsourcing. Good luck! – Philip Regan Oct 12 '11 at 14:44
