I opened a PNG image to add some text, but when I click the image with Text Tool, it doesn't work.

I have searched info online about the Text Tool and anything related to this issue I'm having, but I haven't found anything.

Are there any limitations regarding the Text Tool in GIMP that I need to know about it? Or is it just my GIMP software setup broken or a bug?

Windows 7 SP1 64 bit, GIMP 2.6.11

It might help if you said how it doesn't work. Does the "I-beam plus crosshairs" cursor appear after choosing the text tool? What happens when you click with it? Is the png image RGB or indexed? –  mgkrebbs Dec 23 '11 at 7:15

Agreed. Please specify what exactly doesn't work. Meanwhile GIMP 2.8 is featuring editing text on canvas + rich formatting. Unstable builds are available. –  Alexandre Prokoudine Dec 28 '11 at 0:23

It might be some kind of bug. If it doesn't work even after restarting GIMP, you could try GIMP 2.7.4 (last before 2.8), or wait for GIMP 2.8. GIMP 2.7.4 is development release, but for me works fine (never crashed) and there are many improvements beside GIMP 2.6 also on Text Tool. I use development release since 2.7.1 and I can highly recommand you new version.

Some main information about 2.7.4: http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2011/12/gimp-274-released-as-precursor-to.html
