I am working on a logo in Illustrator CS5 at the minute and am trying to create a 3D scales from a 2D image. I have created the stem and 'bowls' of the scale using the 3D rotate feature and they're fine however I am having trouble with the balance. It is a long narrow strip with 2 hooks at either end. The rotate feature is no good for this part of the image because it removes the hook features. An example of the image can be found here http://www.zazzle.co.uk/ornament_with_scales_of_justice-175281147057021234

Anyone have any idea how to do this? Would really appreciate it.

I'm not 100% sure I understand but the best guide I've ever seen for making 3D within Illustrator is by Kevin Hulsey. Here is his website with tutorials: http://www.khulsey.com/

I would start there.
