I have a video of an event that I'd like to extract photos from. I've tried opening the video in full screen and taking a screen shot, which worked but is not incredibly clear. I have a Windows 7 computer that comes with some built-in software - Windows Live Movie Maker, etc. I also have the free version of QuickTime installed. Is there any way I can extract photos from the video using any of these programs?

I fear, There is nothing to do with graphic design – Jack Feb 27 '12 at 13:27
In for example VLC ( videolan.org/vlc ) you can take snapshots with Ctrl+Alt+S (or going through the menu) Those images are saved into the My pictures folder in w7. As far as i know, taking snapshot in windows media player is possible, but not as easy as you'd think. – Joonas Feb 27 '12 at 13:53

Video is often a much lower resolution than still photography. It's normal that these won't be 'as clear' as an actual photo. – DA01 Feb 27 '12 at 14:18
Welcome to GraphicDesign.SE! This question doesn't really match our site, but there are several similar questions on SuperUser that you may find helpful: superuser.com/search?q=extract+a+still+image+from+video – Farray Feb 27 '12 at 16:30
I wonder, are promotional stills used in movie advertising separately taken or are the ad designers able to extract higher quality stills from raw footage, or are they taken separately on the set? – Lèse majesté Feb 27 '12 at 16:33
