I want to make a better background image for a site I been working for my church, I need help on the colors and design for my background image , and footer, I know there is a few techniques and trends on design out there, but I just dont know how to do it,

Welcome to GraphicDesign.SE. We do allow design critiques here, but they need to address a certain problem. I.e., "Why is my eye attracted to X region instead of desired Y target". You mentioned you knew there were a few tricks and trends on design out there....why don't you do a google search on web design trends, or beautiful websites? There are hundreds of websites that do "50+ beautiful websites" blog posts. Check out this Google search. Find designs that you like and incorporate them into your website. You can view source to see what they did and 'inspect element' in Chrome or use the firebug tool in firefox, or even the developer tools in IE to see HOW they did it.
