Graphic Design Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional graphic designers and non-designers trying to do their own graphic design. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'd like to start designing environments, modelling etc using a graphics suite. I've had a look in my local university library on this section and Maya seems to stand out. Is this software suite suitable for a beginner to learn in or is there a more user/beginner friendly suite?

My goal is to be able to successfully model and rig my own character designs /build my own 3d environments to be used elsewhere (animation and or assets in games).

Thanks,

Euden

Sorry Ben, 3D questions are off-topic here. – Scott May 15 '12 at 9:11
Vue is amazing for making landscapes and such. As far as character modeling goes, Maya is pretty popular, and it is often used with zBrush. As far as learning 3d modelling goes, here are 2 great websites that offer tutorials: thegnomonworkshop.com and digitaltutors.com – Joonas May 15 '12 at 10:17
By the way zBrush alone even for a beginner is a pretty fun software and works great with drawing tablets. – Joonas May 15 '12 at 10:23
Welcome to GD! Questions about 3D software are off-topic. Additionally, questions asking what is "the best of _____" are generally frowned upon. – Farray May 15 '12 at 22:54
