I want to add a white border around this image. This image is inside transparent canvas which is bigger than visible image and when i opened this image in photoshop, then in this image there is only one layer.

I downvoted. Question shows no research on part of user. A simple Google search for "Photoshop Tutorial Add white border around image" turns up several pages of tutorials. – Scott Jun 27 '12 at 9:18
You can apply stroke on the image for more google the same – Jack Jun 27 '12 at 9:38

  1. Create a group of layer of image
  2. Flatten the group (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+E)
  3. Send flattened group to the bottom
  4. Add stroke layer style

Create new layer below the image layer, fill it with white (if your image is on the background layer, double-click it to turn it into a normal layer). Then you can adjust the canvas or crop the image to your liking and the white background will simply show through.
