Where are some good places to find free stock images?

I'm looking for good places to find illustrations (not photos). Any places online with free illustrations that you would recommend? I'm looking for "Caricatures", backgrounds, cartoonish.

This is really vague - it would be more answerable if you edit in more info on what kind of illustrations you're looking for and why, and what's insufficient about the places you've looked already. We need a criteria to assess answers against, else it's just a list of links. – user568458 Jul 18 '12 at 13:48

@NewB The question you linked was closed as "Not Constructive". Despite it getting many votes back in the early days of this site, it's not a good fit for the Q&A format. These questions used to get marked "Community Wiki", but that option was killed a while ago. – Farray Jul 18 '12 at 15:57
So I'm guessing you mean clipart-style illustrations? e.g. like this marketplace.veer.com/products/3701760? If so you could try a more specific question, but this is probably the wrong place - designers use stock photos a lot, but in general we're more likely to make our own illustrations than use stock ones. The guys at webmasters.stackexchange.com might be more likely to use such things (though again, be specific about the kinds of illustrations you want, ideally with examples) – user568458 Jul 18 '12 at 16:58

http://thenounproject.com/ is ok, though probably not the kind of illustrations you're looking for. If you're looking for more clipart and color type things, that's a bit more difficult, and usually requires purchase or a subscription.

I like to browse Wikimedia Commons. That's all in a free license and it contains a lot of high-quality images. At google images advanced search you can also search by license.
