Is the image you posted the one you're having trouble tracing in illustrator?

@CalebKleveter that particular menu item might need you to have a rectangular selection active. You should also be able to resize with "image size...", selecting "content aware" as the filtering type (instead of bilinear, nearest neighbour etc)

comment How to resize shapes with stroke?
Another place to change this setting is in the fully expanded "Transform" palette, when you have a selection. Yet another way is to double-click the "scale" tool (without a selection), make the change and hit OK.

+1 for HSB space: it's more humane!

comment Is there a way to trace objects to get this old fashion 3D effect?
Very pragmatic answer, but I hate the stairsteps! You have to go through and delete them all, which can take ages, and is a real pain...

comment How to produce difficult variant of Taegeuk symbol? (see images)
While this solution be ok for your purposes, I think the shape of the spiral is a little "off" when compared to the original image. This only matters if it matters (historical accuracy, or documentative purposes etc).

revised Making parts of a shape transparent
Specified 24-bit, because 8-bit PNGs don't support alpha transparency.

Great point about the unsuitableness of PNG to photographs. It's worth point out that this is plays out in terms of file size, and that a JPG is a much better format for photos.

@Rafael oh? I'm surprised that it doesn't fall back to CPU rendering in that case. I didn't think a graphics card was a requirement for webGL

Blender is a free open source 3D modelling tool that can export to several formats understood by Three.js (e.g. Collada). You could either create these models yourself in the software, or find free/paid "off the shelf" models. (Was that a food pun?)

It's possible that this question might actually be "off topic" for this site. It seems like a better fit on Stack Overflow, since it's basically about web development.
