comment Free/libre equivalent fonts for a cover
I am fully aware of where to find free and open-source fonts online, and such a question might not even belong here. My problem is not to find them, but to choose them, which is more of a graphic design issue I think.

No, it's not blocked by any proxies, it's blogger that says I have to be invited to this blog in order to see it. That said, I found another method which says to use the "Chrome" filter in Inkscape. That's fine, but there's no "Gold" filter filter.

That sounds like an answer to my question, unfortunately the blog that contains the tutorial is restricted so I can't read it...

@Jack: I've tried Greycstoration, which does an OK job at it.

Well making it a font file makes it easier to typeset, and I don't have to have a big collection of eps files in my current directory to typeset initials with LaTeX. Also, it allows to actually associate it to an existing font (which is the goal).

The idea is to get an initial as close as possible to original, but simply autotracing from the bitmap in fontforge generates too many points, so I'm searching for a way to reduce the noise before doing that.

Right, it's 80€ and we're a small association with very little budget ;-) Funny, I had actually tried Bodoni XT as a replacement for Goldwater, but I wasn't very convinced. Since the first font is used inside the book, I don't mind so much paying 30€ for it, but the second font I use only for this single word, and I'm really not sure to use again for anything, so 50€ for one single word...
