An independent graphic designer and instructor in InDesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver after tiring of working for other people. I'm also a software tester for various companies and "Tier 0" tech support for friends, family, various associates and lots of clients...

Well said, sir! Coincidentally, I blogged recently about the role of humor in marketing. I'll have to track down that accountant ad and add it to the post. What was the company, do you recall?

comment Which graphic design application should I learn after Photoshop and Illustrator?
Heh. I wrote that nearly 3 years ago, long before the cloud came along. At the time, transparency effects (drop shadow, glows, bevels, etc.) were still fairly new in Id. As John Nack put it, Adobe ported a "headless Photoshop" into InDesign, eliminating many round-trips to Ps. Id's vector capabilities had expanded to the point where many of things that used to be Illustrator-only could now be done as quickly in Id. These certainly affected my workflow, and I'm sure the same was true for many other folks.

Great question, Ryan, and one that's highly relevant in today's marketing climate.

comment Where can I find hi-res stock photography previews?
To make this answer more useful, you should add some specifics, such as the quality of such a site as compared to established micro stock or big name stock houses. Keep in mind this is a professional designer looking for the answer to a fairly specific question.

comment Anyone know the name of this serif font?
It's very hard to tell at that resolution. The serifs look bracketed, but that could just be a combination of anti-aliasing, low-res and an almost-eradicated shadow.

comment How to tone an image to with a specific color? Like greyscale, but toned
The confusion comes in when the OP says he wants a "greyscale" (which by definition has no color information) with a fixed RGB value (which is like saying you want a ladder that has only one rung, because brightness is part of the RGB information). I think it's a language issue, or lack of terminology.

Same kit, I'd say. It wouldn't have to be screen capture software like Camtasia, although it could be. There's some sophisticated video editing (and not-so-sophisticated audio). Many elements look like they were recorded separately as their own clips then layered on the timeline in the final compositing stage.

Well, that's not what I said at all. Id has "many of the same capabilities" means just that, not "the same as."

comment What file type should I use for a logo when exporting from Adobe Illustrator?
In my experience over the last few years, it's extraordinarily rare to run into a provider who requires EPS. The only two I've encountered since around 2005 were both small mom and pop signage/screen print places with old equipment. When I send to professional NC engravers and laser cutting shops or large signage firms it's always PDF, Illustrator 10 or AutoCAD files.

comment What unique benefits does the EPS format provide?
You just said exactly the same thing I did. All your points are explicit in my answer. Old equipment, old software, obsolescent techniques are the only reasons to use EPS anymore.
