comment Ideal sizes of symbols (or logos) of various proportions, when put together (ignoring any text)
Hi ellockie, I see a very slight difference between this and the linked duplicate question, but my answer to this would essentially be the same as my answer to the marked duplicate. Just disregard the font size, balance your tallest and widest symbols to be roughly equal in size/"page presence", and then scale the other symbols to fit those boundaries. Defining consistent white space is the most important factor you have influence over when facing this task. Beyond that, there's no hard and fast formula for a group of varying images.

It could be the Matte colour you have set, I don't know enough about it to answer but it's been the cause of similar issues for me. Try changing the colour or removing it if you can.

That looks like a drop-shadow. I'm not familiar with Sketch so I can't say for sure. Your question seems to be lacking a lot of information, such as how you've set up your layers and what layers styles you've used. A screenshot of your workspace, showing layers, may fix it. Without more information we can only really take shots in the dark, and guess at the issue. Please could you add whatever additional information you can gather?

@RandyJones I don't mind bringing it to chat, I don't have too much time but if the OP wants to I'll give the rest of whatever help I can offer there.

In that case I think the only thing missing is the light itself, which is probably also the hardest part. Once that is in should be a lot more obvious. Bear in mind the image doesn't have to be 100% clearly a lens to any old average Joe, as long as the context surrounding it makes that clear. So if it's sitting next to a 'Varifocal Lenses' heading, it's pretty obvious what it's representing regardless of the readers familiarity with lens diagrams. Would you like to continue in chat as requested, as this is getting a bit lengthy for q comments?

That's a good start for sure, I'm not sure if you're going for Photorealistic or 3D diagram style? I think photorealistic is very difficult to achieve, but as a diagram style it's at least halfway there. You could copy the lenses off of the photo and blend them onto yours before highlighting the wanted parts and masking the unwanted parts.

Glass is one of the most difficult materials to fake without 3D software. Glass reflects it's surrounding while also refracting that light into warped shapes. It may be a bit easier to do it if you go for a lightbox background because then it doesn't need to reflect anything.
