comment Fitting text into a Letter using inkscape?
@Hannah Only the words flow, not the letters, so if the word is too long to fit inside the letter shape you probably won't see it at all.

comment Is there an easy way (a pattern or plugin) to create urban maps? Inkscape preferred
Have you tried playing with the Path > Trace bitmap feature in Inkscape, using a snapshot of an urban scene as your starting image. It can create some large paths which are fiddly to edit afterwards, and maybe you want a 'randomly generated' output anyway. But it could be a starting point to creating something in SVG. There are two options - single path or stacked multiple paths, and you can choose number of paths and if you want colours or grays etc.

@Hannah - I think what might be happening is that when you turn text into a path it creates a group, even if there's only one letter. After turning text into a path, ungroup the letter, then select the letter path and the text and flow into frame.

comment In Inkscape, how can I easily select multiple objects that are obscured by other objects?
I sometimes do this sort of thing by moving the objects off the top of each other so they don't overlap (so much) then select the things I want. Then Ctrl+Z to undo the movements I just did. The objects I selected remain selected throughout the undo.

+1 well said - we are not in possession of the full facts here in order to be able to make informed comment, merely generalizations.

@e100. Yes - you are absolutely correct. I'm back ahead of you now though - can I have my vote back :-)

it's W. You could try this out yourself - but someone already did the work for you :-) See this - stackoverflow.com/questions/3949422/… but personally I wouldn't design around the widest character as it's almost certainly going to be generally too wide if you allow space for 35 W's

You can sort of get closer to that by making the points on the top edge closer to each other and the same with the bottom edge, so that you squeeze the top and the bottom while keeping the middle constant. - I added an example image above

comment What is the meaning of adding (?1297280570) to the image names?
@funguy not a website race - a website about a 10,000 meter running event. As another example lets say your header image on an e-commerce shopping site has occasional promotional or status messages built into the image. Instead of cluttering your server with different image files and having to come up with a new unique file name that you know you haven't used before, EVERY time you update or revert the header image on the website - this mechanism would allow you to use the same image file name whilst ensuring that visitors will always see the latest version.

1302118869 = Wed Apr 06 2011. Probably it was the last time that page was regenerated. It just ensures that you always see the image on the website, not the one cached on your machine. It may not have actually appeared to change since YOU last visited it, but who's to say it hasn't changed back and forth in the mean time?

comment Help me find a font that looks something like this…
Did you happen to know these fonts or did you use a font website to search for a font based on a style. If the latter, I'd be interested to know how you went about finding these fonts based on some visual characteristics, as you've got some close matches here! [EDIT @koiyu - you read my mind and beat me to it! thank you]

comment 2.5D character animation
I was suggesting that in the same way that 3D games make use of the hardware to render a scene in real time with millions of triangles, that you find or develop a 2D games engine that takes account of character's location, distance, environment, phase of motion, user's view point etc and renders the scene real time in a suitable 2D format. In this way your designers can determine how characters look and behave and how they are drawn and animated, but the rendering engine actually draws the lines, shapes, fills at their relative position, scale and orientation - real time .
