comment Applying Clipping Mask Function to Illustrator Lines
Cakey's advice is great for Illustrator. Just wanted to point out that you should be able to import .ai lines(exported in an old format for compatibility) into Fireworks where you can actually apply textures/styles to your strokes.

comment Flash to Illustrator CC conversion… possible?
I haven't used Flash in a while, but I used to...a LOT...on a daily basis. It's a shame FXG doesn't work, I remember using it with CS6 and even gradients were nicely supported. The new Flash CC should support SVG export which you can open/edit with Illustrator. I'm not 100% sure all features will be supported (as Flash can implement drawing methods Illustrator doesn't). Alternatively, could you try uploading a swf of your drawing here and see if the SWF comes out correctly ?

comment Convert Primitive to Path using SVG format in Illustrator
just tested: much much simpler than my approach :) Thank's for the tip, quite handy! Sometimes I need to load designs in Processing and make them interactive. If elements are SVG paths, then I can easily check if the mouse coordinates lie inside them.

comment Advice on batch exporting sections of an image
That's awesome! Thanks a lot! It is a lot faster :) I've tweaked a bit to do 2 more things: flatten layers, fetch layer[0] (instead of "Background"), and when storing unit preferences, I also store the history state, so I can restore the document to what it was before script manipulation.

comment Advice on batch exporting sections of an image
I've updated the question and included my script (which works only on this setup (would fail on different image sized/setups). My question is if this is the fastest way to tackle this. The current script works but is very slow(takes hours to complete). I know it's a large image I'm working with, but maybe there's a better way ?
