Thank you Philip. I've scanned halftoned colour images. I wouldn't scan them at 1200dpi anyway. Art I'm scanning has obviously been either vectorised and printed or has been hand drawn and scanned at very high resolution because it definitely looks like vector art. Organic shapes on the other hand tell me it was originally hand drawn.

Oh you mean convert to BW-only bitmap with a particular threshold level. Ok. Fair enough. But the question is more about resolution... What resolution should be sufficient? Let me emphasize that in my question.

But is it a good example of graphically designed tutorial book? I strive for visual excellence and innovativeness, not great tutorial teaching approach. Looks quite straight forward and it doesn't really have a creative layout, does it?

comment What are the dimensions of a business card?
Bank credit card size is an optimal but most of the time dullest choice. but I agree it's the best possible size to make business card universal. It fits rolodexes as well.

comment Do you use colour lasers for proof printing?
Ok. I've seen Fiery in the past but I'm not sure why one needs one? I mean in terms of colour reproduction? If your printer is some mid to high range with proper calibration why would one still need Fiery solutions? It's not like I'd need perfect proofing. All I'd need is some accuracy that makes it simpler to test end results.

Good that you've put this together in an answer. +1
