comment Saving all visible content over and over with ascending names in Photoshop
Hi and welcome to GDSE! In order to better help you I think you'll need to clarify a few things. Am I understanding you correctly if I say that what you want to do is to save a snapshot of your Photoshop composition as it is at the time and then continue working as usual? If so, could you not simply create an Action that saves your composition as a png?

Exactly. Record the above with an Illustrator action and you're good to go.

comment What is the name of this element?
Yeah, I don't think it has any actual name. Though I admit it's often commonly used to highlight text, especially blockquotes, in web articles or e-mails. Maybe something like an "indentation bar"?

comment color shift when duplicating layers in photoshop
It certainly sounds like a transparency or blending mode problem. One thing you might not have already thought of: is there any inherent transparency in the image itself? You could try merging your image layer with a solid color background and then duplicating that to see if that does the trick.

comment How create such amazingly smooth grain with gradient like this?
A slightly more elegant way to do this is to use gradients. That's the way to do it in Illustrator as well. Mind if I edit and add to your answer a bit?

comment What kind of files, graphics, and information would be in an “identity starter kit?”
Great advice. Just wanted to chime in and add a couple of resources for the budding identity designer that I'm finding helpful. Graham Smith's site is great. Not only does he do great logo/identity design work but he blogs, inspires and otherwise helps out the design community as well. Brand New is another fantastic website for identity inspiration. You should be able to pick up you some ideas about what a great identity does and does not usually entail from there.

comment Are there any go-to resources for how to grab users or readers attention?
I guess what it can be narrowed down to is "how can I structure my design/layout to bring attention to certain aspects of it?" But that's still an extremely broad question. In order to be a bit more helpful though, here's a decent read on structuring your design to communicate more clearly. It's far from perfect but will help introduce a few core concepts of good design. Beyond that I'd suggest looking up lists of good design books to get you started on learning graphic design. There are a few such questions on this site.

comment Which fonts don't come with Windows 8 that would come with a new MAC?
Just to help out. There are a bunch of decent to quite good fonts available for free these days. Check out fontsquirrel.com for a good selection. Another good service if you have the money is typekit.com though it's also included in the Adobe Creative Cloud-service if you're subscribed to that. Both these options will give you a good selection of quality newer fonts. Unfortunately the classic, good ones are more expensive to come by. Though a decent amount is included with Adobe's software.

comment How can I beat the browser when it comes to reducing image size?
Not sure I understand your question. How is the browser beating Gimp? In perceived quality of the image (when resized)? In that case, how are you actually resizing the image? Would you mind posting some examples?

comment Rebranding a website to get a professional look
Do your research and ask "Why?" a lot. Why are the buses green? Why do they have their current graphic profile? What needs and purposes does it fulfill? What was the idea behind the rainbow? Etc. etc. Then base your design on those reasons/answers instead of off the current design. And if those reasons suck, then make up better ones that the bus company might not have considered. For example: "the buses are largely green because they're eco-friendly". You shouldn't lie of course, just find things to highlight and use as selling points.

comment What are good places to start learning web typography and layout?
Hmm, that's true. I suppose it might not be as up to date anymore since the advent of the responsive web. But grids are an important part of typography and have been given too little consideration in a lot of modern web design. So I suppose this article in combination with learning about responsive web design should give you a decent start.

comment When designing, what techniques can be used for determining if the right amount of “fluff” has been added?
Great answer! Just wanted to add that I wouldn't call the Kenwood ad minimalist in any way or form. Minimalism is about stripping the expression of something to its bare essentials, to only those elements that strongly communicate something to the viewer. The Kenwood ad may have little actual "fluff" but it still isn't minimalist. Why? Because there are a bunch of informative elements that don't really need to be there. That combined with as you say, bad composition and typography, creates something that is simply not very well designed nor minimalist. Ironically, neither is this comment.

Ok yeah, that seems likely. When is it that the problem arises? After exporting from Illustrator or before as well?

comment How do I find a range of colors (ex. different blues) that will contrast well with another range of colors (ex. reds, yellows etc)?
I'm assuming you have but will ask anyway, have you tried Kuler? Using the complimentary mode seems like it would do what you want.

comment How to move the background in After Effects?
You should put your background elements in first, then do as Krisa said and put them all in a composition together. That way you can simply animate the position property of that composition to slide slightly as your character walks on. Or if you have your elements on different "distances" you could animate them individually so that those elements "further away" from your character will slide slower than those that are closer to him/her.

comment Why isn't the black in a video made with After Effects a true black when it's viewed on Windows 7?
How are you determining if it's black or not? Just by looking at it or by color picking it after rendering? Maybe it's just looking off on your monitor? EDIT: It seems you tried to post a still from your video, but it won't show for me.
