comment Photoshop multi-layered smart object file–need help converting into.gif
I'm sorry but I don't know any ready made scripts to solve your problem :(. If I was in your shoes, I'd consider writing one myself – hence the suggestion.

comment Reduce file size without losing quality
That's exactly how "progressive" is intended to work: it should show more and more detailed versions of the image consecutively as more data becomes available.

As far as I can tell “progressive” is a part of JPEG standard and not something exotic, so support should be almost 100%. But it's “I think” not “I know” :).

I agree with e100. Besides PNG (GIF could pretty much do too) is irreplacible in putting on the web images containing e.g. linearts.

comment How to change PDF text encoding ? (ANSI to UNICODE)
In fact there is… and a couple of them at that. One would be to use Acrobat "Export->Text->…" (it is present for sure in version 9; there are some export settings available, like resultant file encoding). There are also a couple of tools to extract text from PDF file. Some of them command line tools like pdf2html, pdf2txt or something like that. But even then, getting text from PDF can be problematic.

How are you extracting your text? Is it e.g. from Adobe Reader/Acrobat via text select and copy?

comment Why do people keep telling me my site looks awful?
I do realize my pointers are quite crude and general, but, from what I was able to understand, you want to learn how to “design” on your own and that's the way in my opinion. That's why I won't tell you: “move your logo here, place your menu there”. That would be just designing it all in your stead. Perhaps it would be better if you'd first try to do a design for a project completely unknown to you before? But that would be a longer process, better suited for PM than this service.

Judging from your comment, I'm afraid that you're just “tired to death” with trying to improve your design. I've experienced that feeling a couple of times myself :). The thing was, I was so fixed on my own way of seeing things I lost my perspective completely. Everything seemed just “in the right place”, “obvious” and “clear”. But it wasn't :). Only after some time, when I forgot about my initial ideas altogether, I was able to tell :). My advice is: let it rest for a while, “forget it” and then start from scratch, throwing your previous design away completely.

It would be much easier to help if you'd shown us the image you're talking about.
