comment Making a business card. Any advice?
Eh, if you're gonna pay for design, why not pay for a professional designer? Most print shops (from the local mom and pop shops to the big online operations like PSPrint) have subpar to mediocre in-house designers. Graphic design for a throwaway flyer may be a commodity service, but not business card design. So shop for printers & designers separately.

comment What's an appropriate body font to couple with Bebas Neue
Font pairings can also be contrasted using typographic color and other visual qualities. However, the mood of the typefaces should be compatible with one another.

comment Where can I find small and limited projects in order to make my first steps toward working professionally as a designer/developer
@Mikalichov: Good call. You can get free exposure and win cool prizes! I've personally even gotten a job offer after one contest.

comment Are there any animation programs other than Flash?
@e100: I think hand-written JavaScript mostly, which explains why most of the examples of HTML5 animations are simple/short demos. All the cartoon-type animated shorts I've come across have been really crude and nowhere near professional quality. At this point it's more suitable for animating games rather than producing animated films, especially as most artists/illustrators aren't likely to want to learn how to code JavaScript by hand.

comment Can't save PSD as JPEG
@horatio: Yea, I've personally found that Photoshop bands more heavily in 32-bit mode than in 8-bit, probably because the quantization needed to simulate 32-bit color on 8-bit displays.

That's a separate question, but it's probably an incorrect file extension. It could be a TIFF file using JPEG-XR (HD Photo/Windows Meda Photo) compression, which supports 32-bit color depth.

comment Speed effect on electrons - 3D
If it's supposed to be scientifically rigorous, then shouldn't the illustration represent an electron cloud or show the electrons as a wave function rather than discrete moving particles of the Rutherford model a la old pre-quantum-theory textbooks?

comment Software like InDesign or QuarkXPress to create instructional documents
A superior way to do syntax highlighting is to use a source code printer like listings to generate the properly typeset code in LaTeX. This can then be used in Quark, InDesign, etc. In addition to LaTeX's usefulness for bulk typesetting (and not just for source code) in document/book publishing, listings supports a ton of different languages and comes with lots of options. It's far preferable to trying to come up with your own GREP styles to parse each language yourself.

comment Print outline preview in illustrator
Well, my own Google research suggests that there isn't a way other than doing a screenshot, but I know that there are screen grab utilities out there that can capture a window that extends beyond the edge of your screen. So in theory, you should be able to just expand Illustrator to be big enough to show the entire image and do a screen grab that way.

comment If I make a design in RGB mode and then change it to CMYK how will it look when it's printed?
e100 makes a good point. And (R0, G0, B0) gets converted to a form of "rich black"--(63C, 52M, 51Y, 100K). You can read more about the different blacks here.
