comment Courier New-like font with Unicode support?
@HighCommander4: Then all you really need are the Mathematic Symbols block and the Mathematical Operators blocks. You can see the list of Unicode blocks here. Upon clicking on each one, you can find a list of common fonts that supports each block. Or just click on one of the fonts and then look up its supported blocks list, e.g. this one for Code2000, which shows all the blocks it supports and by what percentage.

comment Selecting page ratios for a novel
@Village: I don't think specific sizes or ratios are appropriate for an instructional book. Layout design isn't so simple as just picking from a predefined list without consideration for other typographic attributes (e.g. folio placement, leading, typeface, font size, etc.). The book does mention that older books used the Golden ratio, but the takeaway is that your margins should be well balanced but not equal, especially with books since the inner margin will need to be bigger to account for the binding. But there are unfortunately no math formulas for creating harmonious page layouts.

comment In Adobe Fireworks, how do I make the margin beneath the text in a text box smaller?
What screenshot? And have you tried just reducing the bottom margin of the paragraph? You should be able to set it to a negative number if needed.

comment Which font should I use when I do not have a lot of real estate , and anti-aliasing turned off
I hate most applications that deviate from the UI style (and UX guidelines) of the host OS. With the exception of iTunes and Adobe apps, they're almost always incredibly tacky and have poor usability. And even if your particular widget/app is well-designed, it's not aesthetically pleasing for every app on the desktop to have a different UI style.

comment Making a business card. Any advice?
Eh, if you're gonna pay for design, why not pay for a professional designer? Most print shops (from the local mom and pop shops to the big online operations like PSPrint) have subpar to mediocre in-house designers. Graphic design for a throwaway flyer may be a commodity service, but not business card design. So shop for printers & designers separately.

comment What's an appropriate body font to couple with Bebas Neue
Font pairings can also be contrasted using typographic color and other visual qualities. However, the mood of the typefaces should be compatible with one another.

@Mikalichov: Good call. You can get free exposure and win cool prizes! I've personally even gotten a job offer after one contest.

comment Are there any animation programs other than Flash?
@e100: I think hand-written JavaScript mostly, which explains why most of the examples of HTML5 animations are simple/short demos. All the cartoon-type animated shorts I've come across have been really crude and nowhere near professional quality. At this point it's more suitable for animating games rather than producing animated films, especially as most artists/illustrators aren't likely to want to learn how to code JavaScript by hand.

comment Can't save PSD as JPEG
@horatio: Yea, I've personally found that Photoshop bands more heavily in 32-bit mode than in 8-bit, probably because the quantization needed to simulate 32-bit color on 8-bit displays.

comment Can't save PSD as JPEG
That's a separate question, but it's probably an incorrect file extension. It could be a TIFF file using JPEG-XR (HD Photo/Windows Meda Photo) compression, which supports 32-bit color depth.
