comment Diagramming a web site
It really has nothing to do with graphic design. It would be more appropriate at webmasters.

comment How can I achieve a better 3D lifting effect of a logo for a website?
A CSS animation might seem cool because of the novelty, but for a logo, it would probably be better to use a graphics program to make the logo really pop. It'll be static, but it'll also look better and look that way all the time instead of just when the user mouses over it.

comment How to make a metallic gradient in photoshop
@horatio: Yea, all gradients need to be based on the geometry of the reflecting object. And if you go for the photorealistic end of the spectrum, you also need to take lighting and the surrounding environment into account. The problem with non-flat/tubular geometry can probably be solved using a gradient mesh, but it's still a tough job.

comment How to make a metallic gradient in photoshop
Curious how so many people try to (ab)use bevel to simulate all forms of non-flat 3D shapes: a sphere, a box, complex shapes of real-life objects--many of which have already been drawn with proper perspective and shading. It's especially baffling with things like isometric cubes, as the bevel actually has the opposite effect of flattening the object.

comment How do I embed Google Web Fonts into an SVG?
@Verandaguy: A few problems here. First off, FontSquirrel generated a bunch of CSS for embedding all the different styles of Ubuntu (e.g. bold and italic), and it used 'UbuntuRegular' as the font-family name for the regular version. I removed all the unused fonts, leaving just UbuntuRegular and renamed that to Ubuntu to match the font name you used later in your document. Secondly, there was an extra </svg> right after the style definitions. So everything after that was treated as junk data. Once I removed that, it worked fine.

@Verandaguy: I don't see a <style> element anywhere in that SVG document.

comment How do I embed Google Web Fonts into an SVG?
@Verandaguy: You can either put in a separate CSS file just like you would an HTML document, or you can embed it in a <style> element like so.

comment How do I select a high-contrast color set for a map?
That's because the visual colors we perceive are more psychological and specific to human vision than mathematical. If we had 4 or 2 color receptors instead of 3, our perception of color and the relative relationship between different colors would be completely altered.
