comment What design trend led to movie trailers displaying the title at the top of the screen?
@Ryan: TV networks do use similar on-screen graphics to brand their channels. Likewise, news stations often follow very similar formats (especially for things like sports). Many channels also use similar on-screen animated promos in the lower left corner of the screen to promote upcoming programs. And movie trailers/posters have long followed a standard format. However, the title/hashtag + release date thing isn't nearly as standardized to the same extent as the other things I've mentioned seeing as the vast majority of trailers don't have them.

This isn't a standard commercial style. The hashtags/title and release date aren't part of the trailer. They're just thrown in by some uploaders to make use of the letterboxing space because theatrical releases are presented in a CinemaScope (2.35:1) aspect ratio while YouTube displays all videos in 16:9. But most official trailers don't have them, and especially if the video isn't hosted on YouTube (e.g. go to the Apple trailers or the official website for the films).

Make sure the outline of the snowboard includes the bleed, otherwise you're just gonna end up redrawing part of what you're trying to remove for purely aesthetic reasons.

See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_gamut and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_space to understand why changing color profiles can change the colors of an image.

@spiderplant0: You can't tag an RGB image with a CMYK color profile because RGB has 3 channels while CMYK has 4. Therefore, some form of color conversion needs to take place. You can assign a different RGB profile to an RGB image without color conversion because it's still going to be 3 channels at whatever bit-depth the image is. Image viewers will simply display different colors for each RGB tuple.

@poepje: AA = Associates Degree. It's a 2-year degree you usually get from a community/junior college.

comment Is there a collection of basic open source web templates I can use and customize for my projects?
@Robottinosino: When an original theme usually takes $1000+ to design and implement, yes, $40 is near free. Also, if you're actively paranoid about having your designs copied and used for free, why would you expect others to give theirs away to you for free?

comment How can I convey complexity of source code without showing code?
Visual paradigm has some examples of different ways to convey the function and design of your app: including function call diagrams, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams. And if you've been properly documenting your code using Javadoc/phpDoc/etc. then you can easily generate pretty API documentation in HTML, which can then be converted to PDF or LaTeX if you want.

Rather than trying to overwhelm the audience with how indecipherable and abstruse you code is, why not focus on the merits of the code: such as performance, scalability, extensibility, etc.? If you don't think that sufficiently conveys the magnitude of your effort, include a class diagram, API documentation, UML diagrams, revision tree, and a list of all the bug fixes and refactoring you've done. Source code just isn't a good measure of a programmer's productivity, as much of a good programmer's work is done outside of actually coding.

From a programming point of view, wouldn't it make more sense to show the simplicity and elegance of your solution rather than playing up how bulky and convoluted it is? As DA01 sorta alluded to in his other comment, complexity may be the result of poorly organized spaghetti code that doesn't use good architectural design, doesn't follow good OOD principles, and/or is overengineered. If your goal is to show the merits of your work, it makes much more sense to show a list of features, demonstrate the particular challenges you faced and the novel solutions you created.

comment What tools can I use to create Fractal Art?
@hhh: Even though it's a standalone app and in theory other graphics programs could also use Pixel Bender as a CUDA image-processing language, I don't think anyone other than Adobe has actually added support for Pixel Bender in their apps. MathMap's GIMP plugin might be similar though.

comment Point vs Pixel: What is the difference?
@kontur: Many image formats, such as PSD, TIFF, JPEG and PNG store PPI or similar scale information. Without PPI information, the printer driver or RIP software wouldn't know the physical dimensions to print the image at. It would also be a hassle to do print design on the computer if you couldn't measure the image in inches or centimeters.

comment Why do most comics have uppercase text in their balloons?
Legibility/readability is a good point, but part of it is also the practicality of lettering in lowercase throughout most of comic book history, when lettering was done by hand. This is how professional letterers hand-lettered comics before digital lettering killed the profession. It's easy to see why uppercase was preferred. This look of comic book lettering has become part of industry tradition--notice that Japanese manga don't have the hand-lettered look that western comics continue to have.
