comment Extend lined pattern in Photoshop
If possible, I'd remove the background and rebuild it from scratch. Your original image show wavy, uneven lines -- that can only really be corrected via reconstruction.

comment What web graphics formats to use?
Great @Da01 Unfortunately, I already awarded the bounty (can't undo) and to add another one it would need to be 2x as large (Retina bounty?). Things do looks spread out well -- everyone getting roughly 200+ rep for the good answers.

comment Using parametric colours within photoshop?
I don't believe this is possible in Photoshop. It's possible in Illustrator or Indesign, but Photoshop doesn't reference things like Swatches the same way the other apps do.

comment Indesign 5.5 Create elbow connector?
Not sure I understand. You should easily be able to create that path with arrows in Indesign using the Pen Tool. I don't get any "auto-close" of paths here.

comment pasting image into Illustrator
I'm not seeing this behavior in CS6 here and no longer have CS4 active to compare (Mac OS10.7.5). CS6 pastes whatever the dimensions are of the raster file and scales the pasted image based on the PPI of the raster. So.. paste a 300ppi image and it gets scaled to 24% to maintain its resolution. Perhaps trash preferences for CS6 if you aren't seeing this behavior? Or it's due to your OS and other technical issues.

comment Cooperhewitt (or other) font family loading issue in Illustrator running on windows!
I doubt that. OTF is OTF and you can't specify what a specific platform sees. You may simply have a conflict with some other font active on your system. With "free" fonts you do get what you pay for more often than not.

comment Transparent CMYK?
Transparency in the CMYk file is all set up on Photoshop... if you leave an area transparent in Photoshop, it should be transparent in Illustrator.

comment graphic design for web
This question appears to be off-topic because it is a better fit for softwarerecs.stackexchange.com But in general - Photoshop, Premier, and After Effects - Or an Adobe CC subscription.

comment Transparent CMYK?
ahhh.. mixing CMYK and spot, you left that out of the question, or I didn't pick up on it ;) You're not getting results LIKE THESE? and you need to manually trap?

comment I'm a freelancer. Do I give the finished work to client before or after they paid me?
This depends on a great many things. New client? Existing Client? Small amounts? Large amounts? Established businesses or just random John Doe from the internet? Type of work being done? Your business structure?

comment Why are the lines of one object darker than another behind another object of 50% opacity?
They can't be exactly the same. There has to be a difference, for example the top shape uses a rich black and the bottom shape doesn't. Or the top shape is set to overprint and the bottom shape isn't. Something has to be different.

comment How can I create and transfer the same metering scale (vector) to a mass of different .jpg images?
Yeah you can place the image no problem, but if it's actually supposed to represent real scale, it should have been in the photographs of the jewelry. Otherwise, it'll never be correct. Unless, of course, the photographs have some reference scale in them already.

comment Using Powerpoint slides or background of poetry
I'd suspect what you are doing does not fall under "fair use" as defined by copyright.gov. Specifically, you are not using the work to comment on the work directly and are displaying it publicly. -- But I'm not a lawyer.

comment Transparent CMYK?
Not really sure I understand. If you place a CMYK Illustrator object on top of a CMYK Placed Photoshop image in Illustrator, upon output, the inks are the same. If the vector object contains C and the Photoshop file contains C, they get combined. You shouldn't need to knock out anything manually. Or, perhaps I just am not "getting" your question. In addition, you can set objects in Illustrator to knockout themselves, no need for some random white object.

comment Editing Text Files within or in harmony with Adobe Illustrator
Illustrator has a type engine with a Character, Paragraph, Opentype, Glyph, Character Styles, Paragraph Styles, etc. No idea what you are asking.

comment Join to end points
Surely you don't really mean "Illustrator 4". That version came out (for Windows only) around 1992. -- And ungroup paths, and select only the end points, in order to use the Join command.

comment Overlapping characters/diacritics detection
I don't think there is. It's all simply leading values. InDesign doesn't "detect" overlapping standard characters if the leading values are too small.

comment Avoiding Colour Optical Illusions in Tables
Exactly.. and any effort to alter an image to appear correct on a poorly calibrated monitor will only result in the image looking poor on a correctly calibrated monitor. In short, you're worrying over something you can't fix on screen. If the boxes are #ffffff, then that's all you can do.
