File backups for Photoshop The problem with this approach is that OP will need to hit "save" and then manually commit the file/branch. He/she wants something which happens at the software level or even protects files from overwrites. Do you know if any of these have a way to watch a folder and auto-commit-on-change? |

Solid colours look ugly in web design? Consider color rather than colors, also consider a pattern rather than patterns |

Photoshop Action for save mysteriously increase file size note that windows and mac report storage space differently: IIRC, mac reports storage as base-10 rather than base-2. What this means is that 1KB=1000 bytes rather than 1024bytes. It may also include the size of metadata or other OS-specific file information which is not actually contained within the file itself but is required by the OS for proper functioning. |

Guidelines for what pixels/quality ratio is more efficient when compressing images I am very curious about the constraints: storage, bandwidth, memory, etc. |

How do I drain this pattern of color to add it? the lighten modes only work if the layer with the mode applied has a pixel with a "lighter value" (lighter grey value) than the pixel below it. The inverse is true with darken. So you can manipulate the texture by inverting the colors or adjusting the levels. If you move the white point in the levels further left, you will get more whites in the crackle texture: the current image is mostly grey and black. |

Removing a white background when foreground contains white it is possible to do this without fireworks. one possible way among many: convert to greyscale, select all, copy, undo the conversion using the history palette to revert back to color, create layer mask, paste into layer mask. |

How do I paste into a layer's mask in Photoshop? This is the actual answer to the question, the others, while helpful, do not actually address the problem of pasting creating new layers |

Saving Image for 150 LPI coincidentally, I cam across a video which exploits temporal aliasing ( youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uENITui5_jU ). Notice that the sampling rate (24fps) is 1x the frequency (24hz) and later int he video, the signal is altered to 23hz and 25hz. |

Saving Image for 150 LPI It is actually 2x and it comes from the Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem. The actual "multiplier" can be different than 2x depending upon the image: screen doors vs. flat walls. You are trying to minimize aliasing by providing at least 2x the highest frequency. |

Differences in color conversion (RGB to CMYK) / How to choose Corporate Color I think this answer illustrates pretty well that there is a lot of trust and hope involved in the whole process. Pantone is a good thought because it is a target independent of the quirks of specific hardware and it is easily specified to a printer and other designers. If you hand a printer a piece of paper with a black sharpie drawing and said "print this PMS 3560C," the color will probably match nearly exactly. |

Why can I not align these two elements? I think your explanation about "doing nothing" is not quite correct: As Scott pointed out in his comment, the layer itself is a 100% canvas with a layer mask. If the layer is not linked to the mask, the mask will not move with the layer and when the layer is "moved" the movement has no visible effect because it is by definition 100% of canvas. Subtle difference, but the movement would have been visible if the layer were e.g. a normal raster layer. |

Design pattern for assigning items to two buckets/lists, where items can be in both, one or none It is unclear to me if "no bucket" is not an option based upon the original description: if there is no default bucket(s) in the specification then clear MUST be an option. It is also unclear if there are meant to be exactly two buckets. I infer that there must be two selected, but there might be 100 buckets to choose from. |

How to setup a duplex document printed both sides with page numbers in InDesign they probably didn't bother (they might have dealt with this I don't know) because it is a nightmare to do a booklet in printer's spreads. If you have to shuffle pages, it quickly becomes a monster project. 4 6 8 pages, maybe but anything more than that is just not worth it, especially considering one can easily batch convert it after it is made. |

How to setup a duplex document printed both sides with page numbers in InDesign I have never taken any classes on the subject nor have any printing experience. My gut feeling was always that imposition was a plating step, and I felt that they knew better than I exactly how they need it to look when plated. They never seemed to mind, so I kept on working that way. Also, I am lazy :) |
