comment Animating in Photoshop with transparency
What about the "default" all-white locked background layer? Hide/delete it?

comment What does 8 bit alpha (PNG) mean?
@terri: It is important to check the pixel specs in the link in Scott's answer. "72ppi" does not make sense as a specification and it does not appear anywhere on that specification page. Ignore "ppi" and "dpi" and focus on actual pixel dimensions.

comment Is there a series of key principles to design a simple interface for a complex application?
There are some things which are rarely done but when they are, they are done 1000 times (mass data entry etc). Consider this when burying functionality.

comment How do I achieve the equivalent of using small caps in Arabic?
@einpoklum: Eskimos are famous for having lots of words for snow. Unfortunately that is a myth. It is unclear how fluent you are with Arabic, but the question itself implies you may not be highly proficient else an "Arabic Smallcaps" analog would be obvious to you. You should heed the warnings here. The best advice in light of all this is that you should adjust the visual weight of the English text so that it best matches the visual weight of the Hebrew and Arabic. This is, after all, the purpose of Smallcaps in English texts: to get the uppercase to fit within the surrounding context.

I would call it cadmium yellow medium.

comment I wonder if I can get >116 simple linear shapes to use them as a Alphabet?
There are 26 letters in the English alphabet along with the numerals 0-9. If you flip each of these on the vertical and/or horizontal axis, you have a base set of 144. Some of them are symmetrical on one or both axes and some will resemble others, but just on this basis alone, I would say your simple answer is "yes."

comment What is the name of hobby grade equipment to create photos where the background can be easily removed?
I have been in pro studios. Paper, cardboard, and lots of tape are professional grade tools

comment I wonder if I can get >116 simple linear shapes to use them as a Alphabet?
Not sure the math community can help further. You pretty much covered it: 116 shapes does not require a lot of components. However, the key feature of writing is data extraction, not ease of writing so the real challenge (before getting into how one gets a new system adopted) is error correction and recognition/discrimination.

comment How can I create an action that hides or shows layers by a specific name in Photoshop?
activeDocument.artLayers[i].visible = true; you can reference by ("name") or index (1). For the OP's use, one needs to iterate through the whole list (for (i=0;i < docRef.artLayers.length ;i++)) and search for the string inside the layer .name

I have never done this, but what you are doing is something akin to "Sinusoidal Projection" used in cartography. See for example christopherstevens.cc/blog/interrupted-sinusoidal-projections

It is important to understand that Retina displays have muddied the waters in discussions of this sort. A Mac with a Retina display may be rendering at twice the "set resolution." In computer gaming this is very similar to full scene anti-aliasing. The details are not that relevant except to say that web fonts may be said to look better on a 2500 pixel wide screen pretending to be a 1980 pixel wide screen. Completely understandable and defensible until you generalize and transmit the information in a form that looks like misinformation tailored to non-technical users.

comment Why is it that this color gradient is so much more attractive than others?
I agree with scott and I will go so far as to answer "Why do they look good?" with "Who says they look good?". But that is subjective. My objective comment is: I guarantee you that you are evaluating the colors within the context of the whole screen that includes the light green window border. This color alone will prejudice you against certain color choices within the viewport.

+2: 1 for the illustrations and clear information, +1 for the ms-paint arrows. So inform, much pro.

comment Photoshop - How to reduce the file size in KB by reducing resolution
One confusion for people new to this is that software often automagically resamples (adds/removes pixels) when they edit the dpi value. When they change 100dpi to 300dpi, they fail to notice the pixel dimensions tripling.

comment While copying text, why more than just the highlighted text is copied?
I don't have a reason, but I do know that Adobe uses its own clipboard (or extends the clipboard in some manner) and that Adobe products don't honor the other copy/cut/paste system keys aka shift+insert; shift+delete; ctrl+insert

comment InDesign XML import — am I missing something?
It does look like the tabs outside the xml delimiters are being inserted. Maybe also try: duplicate the xml file and remove all tabs. Also the heads are missing.
