Difference between kerning vs letter spacing? After designing my first few business cards/brochures, I sort of stumbled upon the power of kerning. It makes a huge difference. |

How can I make this graphic look more realistic and have a sense of depth? (2MB PSD Included) This has nothing to do with your question, but here are some suggestions: The way that you say things makes it seem as though you have a huge ego, or they are simply awkward. "I design amazing interfaces.", "I optimize my work to load quickly and efficiently.", "My sites always rank high in search engines." ... these should be changed to simply "High-Quality Interface.", "Optimized Code.", "Increased Presence in Search Results." Also, get a suit on for the pic, and change the "Meet Me" title and paragraph... title "Schedule an In-Person Appointment." text: "If you're near Portland, Oregon... |

How to design sleek magnifying glass effects like these? @Daniel Certainly more realistic, but perhaps realism isn't always the best thing to shoot for. It's artsy, but perhaps not as functional. Glad you like it, though. :p |

Photoshop CS5: Setting a black background to transparent Out of curiosity, is there a way to do this if the picture isn't grayscale? Maybe do the same, and then making a copy of the original layer, applying it with "Color" blending mode? |

Title text color for header I was thinking yellow myself. If you wanted to do white, I'd darken up the foreground gray a bit and lose 50% of the saturation on the blue. I guess it depends on whether or not you want the text to go over both the buildings and the sky, or just the sky. |

How to design sleek magnifying glass effects like these? I thought about doing a Spherize too, but the problem with it is that it's going to distort the text pretty badly. I'll edit my answer to show the distortion. |

How to design sleek magnifying glass effects like these? Dunno... seems pretty self-explanatory to me. It's possible that I missed a step in there, seeing as how I wrote it all down before actually doing it... but I've read over it even after doing it, and it seems like it should work just fine. |
