comment What DPI should be used for what situations?
Regarding Retina iPhones and Retina iPads (and probably Retina Macs): Apple defines one point as two pixels, so points do matter, but not in the way @JFW is probably asking. I agree with everything you've said. If you want to make your life easier, web and app PSDs should be 72PPI, but it mostly doesn't matter.

comment SVG Filter: Fisheye
A vector fisheye, that's being applied to the vector points, or a bitmap fisheye, that's being applied to bitmap images in your document? Or both?

comment RGB and CMYK: Why both?
Fair call, but I'm talking about a theoretical situation that ignores profiles and gamut (which is a moving target anyway)... a conversion between normalized RGB and normalized CMY. Your point is a good one though. Worth keeping in mind. (AKA the long answers on this page still don't do the topic justice!)

“RGB 256 colors of each shade” — because 8bit = a 0-255 range. Are you talking about what’s technically possible or what the human eye can see? I assure you that RGB 16 16 16 can represent 281,474,976,710,656 different colours (this is very basic programming theory).

comment Thin font output
I agree. Lots of thin typefaces simply can't be used at small sizes for screen design (or print design in some cases).

comment Extracting layers from psd
One massive caveat to this technique: New documents will likely have a global light of 120º, but the source document might not. This could potentially change many layer styles, altering the output. This isn't how I'd do it.

"RGB is capable of creating around 16 million colors" — RGB 8 8 8 is. RGB 16 16 16 or RGB 32 32 32 can have more.

The document's colour depth can be seen under the Image > Mode menu. It should say "8 Bits/Channel" or similar. "image quality will suffer" — Please add more info about that.
