comment Can we estimate the total number of unique still images that are perceivable?
@ZachSaucier I wouldn’t say “answers it”, but “defines why it isn’t easy to answer”. I’m with Peter on this. It’s not really something that I think anyone here will be able to answer accurately.

comment Increase the number of Anchor points on a circle in Illustrator?
@joojaa If you want 5, other strategies can be used. I think @scott’s method is the best way to go for most cases where you need more anchor points.

comment Extract Assets with CUSTOM Size, Format and quality?
Maybe an action + Generator would do the trick? At least that way it can be automated. Can even include a history snapshot initially, then return to that state when done.

comment Export iOS Icon Sizes in Affinity Designer
I haven’t done any testing, but be careful this method doesn’t end up with bitmap scaled assets from the larger size. If it does, they will be worse quality than scaling as vectors/layer effects. You can’t just use slices in Affinity Designer? If I get time, I’ll set it up to test.

comment When I export an image from Illustrator, why is it a slightly different color in the exported image?
It’s also worth noting that profile conversion is a bad thing. It often leads to rounding (visible as banding) and clipping. If you can create with your display set up as sRGB with no conversion, you’ll be better off for it. Print design is not the same as UI design when it comes to colour management.

comment When I export an image from Illustrator, why is it a slightly different color in the exported image?
Nope. The main difference is that UI typically isn’t colour managed — if you provide a file with an ICC profile and pixel that’s #ff0000, then iOS, OS X and Android will display it as #ff0000 with no conversion. If you do the same for a JPEG photo on the web or for print, the profile will be used to convert to the display’s colour space. They are absolutely NOT the same. People who argue they are clearly have no UI design experience.

The issue with that site, is that it’s for photographers. A different approach is needed for UI and web design.

comment Photoshop Actions: Export with exact pixel size, not percentage
Can you give us a rundown of what the action is doing? There’s probably a few ways to solve it, but it’ll depend on your exact steps and desired outcome.

Nice work! Gotta love scriptable apps.

comment Is 32-bit color depth enough?
@joojaa Yeah, definitely. There’s other variables, too. Many displays have temporal dithering and other crazy stuff you can’t easily test for.

@WarrenYoung I’m not up to speed with recent RAW formats, so thanks for the additional info. I’ve added a bunch of info based on your comments. Also added a credit to the bottom. Thanks again.

Sketch is pretty much the exact opposite of what you’d want to build pixel art in.

@digijim Good point. I'll add in a section about CMYK (just to add more confusion).

The result will depend on how the printer’s RIP interprets mono, greyscale and RGB files.

comment How to properly scale-down png assets
Bitmaps are a grid of pixels, and can not be resized without bitmap scaling artefacts. You should do everything possible to keep the elements as vector shapes.

Very likely related to colour profiles and colour management. Can you describe the steps in more detail? What do you mean by “I saved it on my smartphones”?

@MinimeDJ Can you please add an example file that has the issue to the original post? I'll see if I can hunt down the problem.

comment How to begin with UI design
@Rafael Photoshop does both, and it does pixel snapped vectors extremely well. Photoshop should absolutely be considered when talking about UI design. And, in terms of rendering quality, not much else comes close.

Yep, I use some actions and scripts for resizing. My full workflow is documented here: bjango.com/articles/appdesignworkflow The template I've posted a screenshot of is available here: bjango.com/articles/actions
