comment How and with what software was this image created with?
The creator says he uses 3DS Max, V-Ray and SynthEyes on his website.

comment Do you have a “formula” for the webfont vs graphic type threshold?
You could probably even automate SVG and PNG embedding into your CSS and spit out the IE and non-IE versions using SASS or LESS and some other trickery. Would be fun to try to get it working. I'm all for distribution formats being different to creation formats.

comment How to open or save as ico in Photoshop CS6
Does the .ico format support images bigger than 256×256? I've never seen an .ico tool that allows for bigger images (things may have changed since I last looked though).

comment Color Management and Photoshop Color Profiles - Web Nightmare
@Jed Photography and using photos may require a slightly different workflow and setup, depending on where the images are from, how accurately you need to reproduce them and which browsers you're targeting.

comment How to extract the black and white components of an image to superimpose it over colored backgrounds
The specific example you've chose would be fairly easy. Do you need the method to be highly accurate and work with a variety of source images? (If you do, that changes things a little and makes it harder.)

"I strongly disagree" — Please provide a full answer on how you'd set up colour management for web. (Fair warning though: I will respond.)

So you've followed my steps above? If you have, Photoshop should match your browser. So, if they match, you should make things look how you'd like in Photoshop, because that's how they'll appear in the browser.

comment How do so many app menus get that finished textured look?
Ha. No probs. Added some extra info. Also, nothing wrong with Franga, although that's not where I'm from. :D

comment What is this font effect called?
“Illustrator has some good tools for this” +1 on using Illustrator for this. Photoshop can definitely do it, but it'd be far easier to create the shapes in Illustrator, even if you end up texturing and colouring in Photoshop.

comment Conventions regarding saving different versions of a logo in Adobe Illustrator
I use separate files, too. It's usually a good idea to supply a client with a full set of logos in a variety of formats (Ai, PNG, JPEG), so they have everything on hand. RGB vs CMYK is an important point: I don't think that's possible using just artboards.

comment How do you break out of current creative mind sets?
Excellent. I definitely agree that getting away from the computer can be a good thing. Tools like Balsamiq can be good, too. Like you said, it's about being quick and not trying to provide too much detail early on.

comment Can Photoshop Be Used for Vector Purposes?
It's worth noting that if your intention is to use vectors to create a bitmap resulting file (PNG etc), then Photoshop can product higher quality results than Illustrator. It really depends on the specifics of the artwork. Both tools can be the right choice.

comment Version Control for Designers / Alternative to Version Cue
+1 for Git. We're using GitHub for design that sits alongside code. Working brilliantly.

comment Illustrator is unable to make a horizontal line thinner than 1pt
Yeah, this is it. In addition: The default behaviour when creating objects can be set when creating a new document.

comment Rotate every text in a row by 25 degree?
Yeah, but you can also edit elsewhere and copy + paste it in. You'll just need the labels to be separated by returns.

comment Tools to simulate different DPI screens?
The Dropbox viewing app can scale images though. The iPad app never fits full screen. There's other tools for viewing designs on the device that are far better.

comment Tools to simulate different DPI screens?
The absolute best way is to view the design on the device. In fact, that's the only method I'd recommend.

comment Scattered Pixel Effect in Photoshop?
Do you want the result to be a bitmap, vector paths, or would either be ok? There's quite a few ways to automate something like this.

comment How would you create these Photoshop clipping masks in Fireworks?
Yep, that definitely was the question and I think you've answered it well! The issue is that Fireworks is masking the blue and yellow circles, then the grey circle and compositing them as two elements. Photoshop is clipping the entire thing at the end, giving cleaner edges. (Maybe I need to investigate Fireworks a bit more to see if it does what I want.)
