comment Fusion of transparent layer on to existing layer
I would recommend clipping masks or adjustment layers.

I'd add that even if it doesn't have meaning, it can have meaning to anyone, though what meaning they take out of it could be arbitrary but it will be influenced by their own views or those of their culture. Same goes for if it does have meaning. In the end the designer does their best to either convey meaning or not to but it sits outside of their control how people interpret their works.

@DA01 I've updated my answer to address some of your concerns.

Whether the metabolism bit is speculation or not, I'm not sure on, and it's not relevant in this particular case anyway, but if you look up online most people seem to think that the color red is associated with making people feel hungry, which is perhaps where that line comes from.

@DA01 of course it's just a list, however other sources I've been able to find seem to share the same definitions in one way or another.

The same thought crossed my mind, but it seems to me that the same photo could have been taken in portrait rather than landscape (more or less) or multiple landscape photos could have been taken to make a portrait style photo. The cover seems more deliberate than "that's the best we had" or "this is the one we really liked and there aren't any portrait alternatives." Additionally, even if those are the reasons, why did they choose to use those colors in particular over other color combinations?

While I agree a layer mask would be better, why wouldn't a clipping mask work for the original image?

Sounds like something you should ask the Sublime Text team about.

comment Export photoshop layers to individual PNG files - batch process?
@EricCosky Thanks! Cropping is always going to slow things down a lot, unfortunately there's not much to be done about that.

comment Is there any internationally-recognisable icon or symbol for police?
While I personally recognize that icon I can't exactly point to an origin. However I have a feeling it's connected to AIGA's work for DOT (Department of Transportation). If you look at their list of icons I'm sure you'll recognize most of these. You'll notice both the Customs and Immigration icons have an officer in them that look awfully like that one you posted from the Noun Project. Maybe that's a good starting point?

comment Why does 1px equal 1pt in photoshop but not on the web?
It treats them the same at certain resolutions (ppi). If you change your PSD to let's say 300ppi then you'll very quickly see that 1pt does NOT equal 1px. General rule of thumb is that two different units of measurement are never equal, otherwise there'd be no point in have two different units of measurement. Please always work in pixels for web, I've had to go back to designers and have them redo their designs because the pixel values came back in weird fractions, etc. (Another relevant question)

Curious why you would still be on 2014, and not 2015? Maybe that would help as well?

Theoretically you could make this with Microsoft Office software, but the "high professional skill tools" are typically the tool of choice because they generally make things easier for you. In any case, what have you tried?

comment Why my Photoshop brush pixelated instead of smooth
Welcome to GD.SE @Echo Yang. Unfortunately it seems like this question is pretty broad and seems like it's off-topic as it may fall under the technical support category as well.

comment Can Adobe Ilustrator export to Sketch?
Since Sketch can't really import AI files, you may want to export your AI file as an SVG or PDF and then import that into Sketch, that would give you the best compatibility.

comment How do I extend an image by adding blur to sides?
This image isn't extended. This is simply taking the original image, leaving it as it is .. then duplicating it, expanding it to cover the whole background, setting it to be behind the original image and then applying a gaussian blur to it.
