Could you expand on that, John?

possible duplicate of Photoshop - turn white transparent, specifically preserving shadows - new issue

Because OP wants to export the image as a transparent PNG. Multiply relies on a color to be behind it.

I'm trying to follow along with this but I can't seem to get it -- I find the instructions rather hard to follow.

Yeah, I've been using it for almost 10 years now and you can learn something new every day! It's great.

comment How to design web pages around a big logo?
I really like what Ubuntu did. The advantage they have is that their circular logo doesn't contain text and can shrink it more (or at least they have a textless version of it). I appreciate the input.

Very funny and insightful answer. +1. I actually really like the centered logo idea. I suppose the header would still be on the larger side but at least keeping the logo centered keeps the header balanced. Also the way BK is doing it is similar to what I tried to do in my own design, but it wasn't feeling right, but I might take another stab at it.

Also @LaurenIpsum, is it okay to have the logo be on the right-hand side of the page? I find this to be a little strange.

The company is actually a non-profit. They don't have any designers and try to do everything themselves which has led to some... interesting design choices in the past. But for the most part their logo is only reproduced on vehicles and uniforms and can be bigger.

Could whomever downvoted explain why? A downvote without an explanation doesn't really help anyone.

Honestly, I don't know Inkscape. But I would imagine that if you're simply scaling an image down inside of the software that you would be resampling. But there may be a way to resize instead of resample, much like you can do in Photoshop. And if you have Photoshop (which is sounds like you do) you could just use that.

comment How to save slices as separate images without using “Save for Web” in Photoshop cs6
If you are using anything under CS6 then this feature doesn't exist. You will need to crop the image, save it as a separate file, and then undo the crop from the starting file and save the image again. (To make sure you don't accidentally save the crop).

I made an edit on how to relate actual pixels and dpi to what you get on paper.

I can't even get scripts to show up under actions when I'm recording. How do you do that?

Can you do that in any Adobe programs?

You mean besides File -> Open Recent Files...?

I didn't feel it was informative enough to be considered an answer. I'd want to put more effort into it first. Once I find the time to do that (maybe later tonight) I'll reformat as an answer.

comment How do you explain the value of native files to an uneducated client?
Whether they read it or not is their responsibility. Yes, it might feel weird to say "It's in the contract", but the fact is, it is. There's probably a more elegant way of putting it, and I think @Lauren Ipsum had a good idea for how to present it.

I would think client work is more valuable because it shows you actually have clients and it reaffirms what your resume may say. as far as fully functional websites go in regards to portfolios, I would say that you should only need a couple of examples and the rest could just be design mock-ups. Besides, are you applying for a web developer or a web designer position or both? The answer to that question may help balance that equation out.

Whatever contract you're using should specify that you maintain the source/native files, that way there is no confusion and they can't complain about it.
