comment Photoshop vs. Illustrator for Icon Development
It sounds like they have some specific tasks that require SVG; can you ask your client why they want SVG files in particular?

comment How to edit text in PSD without Photoshop?
Can you just ask the person who created the Photoshop files to alter the text for you? That would seem to be the simplest method.

I've used an old (1st gen) CoolPix and achieved acceptable results for a couple of banners used at trade shows and some print articles.

We used to call jury day in college "the dogfight".

comment What does MMH stand for?
I'm thinking of going back to mimeographs - can't beat the smell... (if you remember getting "fresh" mimeographs hitch your pants up and come shake your fist with me at those young punks on the lawn)

Konica lists it as one of their compression methods: konicaminolta.eu/business-solutions/products/…

comment What does MMH stand for?
I fax stuff all the time...after I've typed it up on the 'ol Underwood and added a couple of Polaroids. (I'll wait until you dang kids Google "Underwood" and "Polaroid" on your internets...) The standard is probably still there - it's just a way of ensuring faxed image quality. I am guessing (without knowing the specific software) that they got their start reusing the MMH standard since it was easier than writing their own.

comment Deleting a selected area in Illustrator
Illustrator doesn't really know of things like "pixels" so you can't "chop bits out at a time" like you would in a raster graphics program. It helps to think of whatever bitmap image you've imported as a blank rectangle (that's how Illustrator thinks of it) that you're removing specific shapes from.
