comment New generation of Save icon that is not a “disk”?
@Littlemad, that icon is good. However, I would oppose the idea of adding "HD" abbreviation, because users might be saving the file in thumbdrive/other hardware. To me, it is good enough and depicts the meaning of "save". And thanks for the Tango link by the way. :)

+1. "Joe's Coffee Mug" with an abstract logo, that is just not right. :)

@zzzzBov: A "Payer-generator" with "Choose your religion".

Nicely said, but this doesn't answer my question. Perhaps you could come out with some good ideas?

@Matthew Read, I agree with you that it's not perfect, in particular I don't like the Y-shaped down arrow. Probably a straight down arrow would be better.

Yes, I do understand that the disk has become iconic of save. Thumbdrive would probably be obsolete in the next decade. Please do read and understand my question and note.

Thanks for the YouTube link. Well, there might be tech-savvy kids who might know what a disk is, we can't make a simple generalization based on one video, can we? :) Yes, I think this question is suited for ui.stackexchange.com, but I'm also wondering if there is any professional graphic designers here who could tackle this challenge...
