Tips and sources for beginning designers @Andy Groff: That sounds like a good plan. I was mainly referring to web developers who try to handle design themselves for commercial projects and end up spending 95% of their time on the development part and then try to do the design in the last 3-4 days before the deadline. But I think anyone can get something out of learning new skills and expanding their horizons. It's sorta like how athletes do cross-training, which helps improve their overall performance. |

Getting accustomed to using a tablet This sounds like a good idea for smaller tablets, but I question how practical it is for larger tablets. I have an Intuos4 XL (probably not the best choice for my first tablet), and I simply can't imagine using the pen as a mouse replacement. I'd have to move my arm 10x as far just to reach the same places that a small flick of the mouse would let me reach. So I really can't can't see myself using the pen for general computer use for 8~10 hours a day. |

Why are certain colors more prone to compression artifacts than others? Re-compressing an already lossily compressed JPEG compounds the problem of compression artifacts. That's why you should never do it. If you need a copy of a JPEG, just create a copy of it. Don't open it up in a graphics editor and recompress it. If you're getting corrupt files all the time simply from copy a file, then you need to replace your hard drive. That's not normal. |

What image tablet can you recommend on a budget? You can probably get a previous-gen Bamboo less than that (weren't they retailing for $70 or something?), I think. |
