comment Problem copying over an object that was created by live sketch in illustrator
Ok yes that works. I used the black arrow and also isolated the group. Then I copied and pasted. But the color did not transfer over. Any idea why?

Good guess. That is not what happened this time though. But thank you.

comment What are some good “mocking-up” practices in web design?
@DA01 well yeah in a startup, ad agency, or an excellent web team in a corporate environment should be striving for that. But yes I have had a few small projects where I outsourced our MVP. The devs were nice guys that knew how to code. But because I did not give detailed enough mockups, they had very opinionated designs where they reused bootstrap themes and stock assets. I learned my lesson since then. And now at least send a pdf that I build in keynote with the wireframe of the most important screens.

@DA01 I agree with "code sooner rather than later" however there has to be a certain milestone at which it begins. Such as finalizing certain key requirements. I too often see overly enthusiastic developers start coding a project and letting the coding shortcuts dictate the design which results in a product with a poor user experience. And sometimes the product manager or client will just want the project to keep moving for sake of time and budget while sacrificing what could have been a better design.

I don't think this really addresses the question from a design point of view. Though I do not disagree with you from a business perspective about getting to production fast. But if you get to production before validating the design, you will end up hurting the product or building something that no one wants.

comment What principles of whitespace were used in this email?
Though I can understand the actual math in this case. I am wondering how the proportions were calculated and the reasoning behind it so that those principles can be applied to other projects. For example, I am working on a header and used the Golden Mean. But for whitespace I am wondering about some of the best practices.

comment Why do some logos look.. old? How does design age?
@Scott Seems we might be having two different conversations. I was not talking about "good or bad design" I was referring to the perception of how more simple designs are usually not perceived to be as modern as designs that obviously use more modern tools and techniques.

comment How do I create a button with two shadows in the bottom?
The OP could be designing for a website and hand off the comps to a frontend coder who could later implement shadows. But since this was specifically tagged as photoshop, it should be addressed as such.

@user568458 You have a point that, "Designing a good two-tone logo or icon for something non-trivial can be a serious creative challenge." However what I was pointing out is that the actual execution of a metro icon is very basic and could be accomplished in a minimal number of layers with basic shapes.

comment How can I make this footer “more corporate”?
Thanks for the tips. I was curious what you think about Vimeo's footer in the sense that they have a secondary CTA to "Join Vimeo" but then there is the links below it. In my case all I have for content is the links as Vimeo has. I guess I could experiment with some graphics below as you point out in the second example.

That site was marked private and we can currently not see your site. Can you share what you ended up doing

I see where you are coming from with the "more enticing clicks" but it is really just secondary navigation within the site. Analytics shows that their customers usually just skim the pages and then go to contact page to call. I agree with making the fonts bigger though, thanks.

comment How do you break out of current creative mind sets?
Last weekend I flew into New York for Disrupt NY and that completely kicked up my creativity. I have found that even a road trip or walking to a new coffee shop, browsing random used books, drawing ridiculous creatures helps me to break out of creative blocks.

Ok I will try the "blurring the edges into a color fitting the image"

@Scott- So I am wondering perhaps how to rephrase this. My intent was to get the graphics to look better. I guess the part where I discuss conversion makes it more UX, but the question still centers around the execution of the graphics.

comment Should fonts always be very “formal” on a legal page?
I just input the copy that they gave me, but I agree that the copy is more casual than my fonts lol.

comment How can I make these links more obvious to click on?
Good points, the reason that I did not make dropdowns is because of how this page transforms with responsive design. But you do bring up a good point, on how we might be addressing an engineering issue (responsive) and then end up hurting what the user experience by not using what they are used to. The full page does have the menu at the top, this was secondary navigation, which was supposed to be convenient (not as much as I anticipated). OK good point about the icons.

comment How can you get decorative dots or dashes between links in the sitemap hierarchy, using either CSS or images?
Yes, thanks. the image of the code was the beginning as the sub-lists were expanded. So your question answers the html structure. Now I just need to finish working on the CSS to select the corresponding items based on first-of-type and last-of-type because they will not have the same images.

comment In Dreamweaver (or HTML and CSS in general) how can you style the ® Registered mark to be smaller and floating upwards?
Ended up wrapping the ® with a <sup> tag using a modified CSS class of sup { vertical-align: text-top; font-size:0.7em; }
