comment InDesign CS6 - Content conveyor: placing collected objects (links) at their original positions
So far the simplest solution seems to be positioning linked elements manually the first time and then duplicate the resulting page. Not a very flexible workaround.

comment InDesign CS6 - Export selected pages OR Select all objects on page
Thank you! The object selection script works perfectly. Now I can quickly export a specific page without worrying about named ranges, sections etc. For the record, this was for website prototyping purposes. I haven't tried the other script yet, but the concept of tagging a page to exclude/include it for export sounds very interesting.

(InDesign doesn't care about naming, it considers only artboards/pages numbering)

Exactly, what seems to be missing in InDesign is a way to update the import options without reimporting files from scratch. The workaround you provide is not ideal for my case as I don't have an "out of date" artboard, rather I have different versions of the same artwork in different artboards and I need to be able to quickly switch from one to another. For an "out of date artboard" you can simply change the artboards order in the artboard panel without replacing anything and that does the trick, no renaming is needed.

I'm sorry, I don't see how that could help me with switching displayed artboards in objects containing linked files.

At the moment the most efficient way of updating a displayed artboard across multiple instances seems to use the Content Conveyor or the Paste and Link function to create linked objects, update the original object once and then Update All Links. This however requires some advance planning :-)
