I am trying to make a digital animation which initially planned to be a 2D/3D hybrid with the animation of human characters done in digital 2D while vehicles and certain machineries are done with 3D modelling and animation. It is a one-man project. Recently, I have found an interest in doing 3D animation with the human characters and render them using cel-shading. However, dilemma occurs to me. Should I stick with making 2D animation for the human characters or should I transition to 3D animation but without motion-capture as I don't have the supporting devices. So, which route should I take?
