How would I go about removing all of the white from an image that has lettering, such as this attached worksheet diagram? I want everything but the black to be transparent. enter image description here

If this is a raster image, then tracing is the only real option. Inkscape may not be the best tool to use for raster images. – Scott Dec 18 '18 at 21:32

To add to what @Scott said. A better (free) tool for this would be GIMP. – WELZ Dec 18 '18 at 21:43
  • Thank you both very much for taking the time to answer. I have GIMP, as well, and used it yesterday for this purpose after your suggestion. – Kelly Campbell Dec 20 '18 at 13:29
