this one's a bit specific, but I'm a fan of this effect on the amazon fire tv bootup screen (the bit under the text).

I was wondering if this sort of thing is possible in an app like Inkscape, Illustrator or Photoshop? thanks.

p.s. am I posting this in the right place?

Have a play around with Illustrator's "freeform" gradients and also Transparency tab settings. I think you could get quite close to this. – Wossname Feb 15 at 15:29
  • i'll give it a go! is there a way to do this sort of thing in inkscape? i'm pretty sure my cc licence is about to run out. – benclark06 Feb 15 at 15:34
  • If you mean the curves with gradients, work such as this is best done in a raster image editor. I wouldn't use Illustrator or Inkscape for this, instead I'd use either Photoshop or GIMP. Since your CC licence is running out, something similar can easily done in GIMP like this example. – Billy Kerr Feb 15 at 17:27
  • looks good! i'll make sure to try that out. – benclark06 Feb 15 at 17:31
  • @BillyKerr Kerr how would i go about creating the gradient curves? my gimp skills are a little embarrassing. – benclark06 Feb 15 at 18:19
