To deep down the problem in How to decorate strings of text as nodes if they span across multiple lines?, I want to better analyze the problems in these texts. Basically they have borders and colored background. But when they span in different lines, it feels broken:

Is there a rule in graphic design that this violates? What concepts relate to this? I think it's not readability, since the readers can still understand it easily.

    I, personally, don't think any column should ever be so thin as to allow only 1 word per line. The layout should change if such a situation arises. -- i.e. a horizontal list, rather than vertical, of the 4 columns would completely eliminate this issue.
