I have created the spiral below (see image 1). Even though you can hardly see it from a distance, this one is unfortunately not clean when you zoom in closer. The smaller the spiral gets, the more distortions there are (see image 2). This even worsened when i applied a brush on it to make the lines thin out towards the end (see image 2b and 2c)

I proceeded as follows:

  1. The spiral was assembled from many individual elements using "Join Paths" (cf. picture 3)
  2. as a normal line the spiral looks clean. If a brush is applied, so that the line becomes thinner and thinner towards the end, then the spiral looks strange (picture 2 / 2b / 2c)

I think I put the paths together very cleanly so I have no idea what the problem could be... I also checked that paths do not overlap

Looks like a gou issue turn gpu acceleration off and see if the problem persists.

also, try using the spiral tool for creating your coil quickly, for example youtube.com/watch?v=cC3oVwYehd0

  • @joojaa - Thank you for your feedback, but I dont understand the solution.... what is a "gou issue turn gpu acceleration off"? How can I do that? And what is the effect of it?

  • @Luciano: Thank you for your video, I know the spiral tool but unfortunately it is not too much useful for my goal, as the spiral needs to get more and more narrow towards the end... that's why I did it piece by piece in hours of work

@Silvan is nothing wrong with your curve. Its just that your graphics card is drawing it wrong. This is called gpu acceleration. You can instruct illustrator to use software rasterisation instead it wont have the same problem. Its at the top of the view menu. Alternatively it is caused by your brush. If so add more points to your brush before making it.
