I have three vector circles drawn in illustrator. I want to clip off sections creating gaps in each and animate them together but at different speeds rotating on the Z. The problem is when sections are cut out of a circle, the center point of that circle changes. I need the common center point for the three to rotate around. How can I do this?
Unless there is a reason you need to work with an illustrator file on this, it would probably be a better solution to use shape layers.
- Create a new Shape layer
- Then add an ellipse
- Add a stroke to it using the "Add:" dropdown next to the "contents" section of the layer
- Add a "Trim Paths" effect from the same "Add:" drop down
You can now animate the start, end, and offset attributes to have the cut out spin around the circle (or just rotate the whole layer). You can create multiple shapes on one layer, use a "repeater", or use multiple layers to add additional rings.
