I'm making a bump map. I need to stroke a certain path with a paintbrush (hardness 50%) with pure black. See the images for my settings. The result is a not entirely black stroke (see image). When I pick up the color it's 22% grey. How to get a pure black stroke and why is it grey?

The grey stroke

Silly me. I replicated the path in Photoshop and stroked it and to my surprise it wasn't purely black. Now I see that I have a layer on top that lightens the stroke beneath. Same in GIMP. Solved.
