I keep reading about "Crowdsourcing" in the context of Graphic Design. I know what crowdsourcing is, but what has it got to do with Graphic Design in particular? Also there's lots about contests. It looks like a free-for-all on some of the sites like Designhill.

Crowdsourcing -- Everyone design it for free.... I'll pick one a I like and maybe pay a fraction of what it's worth.

So yeah.. contests. Designers are asked to work on the speculation of possible payment.

  • So are sites like crowdspring "bad"? – johnny Mar 30 '17 at 3:41

Generally, from a designer/artist perspective, yes. Very bad. – Scott Mar 30 '17 at 5:01
  • @johnny how would the designer make money? Its a bit different than open source in this way. Open source kind of solves intrinsic problems for developers and builds more work. In graphic design the dynamic isn't as straightforward. It may be that theres is some benefit overall but its not as evident as in music or software piracy for example – joojaa Mar 30 '17 at 6:11
